About

A Scout is…

Trustworthy. Loyal. Helpful. Friendly. Courteous. Kind. Obedient. Cheerful. Thrifty. Brave. Clean. Reverent.

Lake Highlands United Methodist Church has sponsored Scouting units in the Boy Scouts of America for over 60 years. Since February 2019, Scouting programs have been available for all youth, boys and girls, of all ages. If your son or daughter is in Kindergarten through 12th grade, he and she can join the age-specific program. Cub Scout Pack 890 is co-ed and for youth in Kindergarten through 5th grade.

Pack 890 lives and breathes the saying that “the sport in Scouting is to find the good in every boy and develop it.”  We serve the Scouting community in the Lake Highlands area of Dallas.  We have boy dens and girl dens. Most of our boys and girls come from schools in the Lake Highlands area including Lake Highlands Elementary, White Rock Elementary, Wallace Elementary, Merriman Park Elementary, North Lake Elementary, Moss Haven Elementary, Scofield Christian School, White Rock North, Lakewood Elementary, Merriman Park Elementary, Stults Road Elementary, Skyview Elementary, and Highlander School.

As soon as a boy or girl “graduates” into kindergarten, he or she is immediately eligible to join as a Lion Cub and participate in our annual Cub Day Camp in June.  Once our Cubs reach 4th and 5th grades, they attend the 3 day and 3 night Webelos Resident Camp in June, and then in the spring of their 5th grade year they earn their Arrow of Light badge and “cross over” into a local Scout Troop.

Dens

In Cub Scouts, each pack is divided into several school-year based dens:

  • Lions (Kindergarten)
  • Tiger (1st)
  • Wolf (2nd)
  • Bear (3rd)
  • Webelos (4th)
  • Arrow of Light (5th)

Meetings

Pack Meetings – Occur on the first Monday of the month. They are typically held at Lake Highlands United Methodist Church. All Dens come to the Pack meeting.
