Pinewood Derby

About the Pinewood Derby

The Pinewood Derby is one of Pack 890’s most exciting events of the year! Every den gets the chance to design, build, and race their own custom car. Whether you’re a first-time builder or a seasoned veteran, this event brings together creativity, engineering, and friendly competition. Scouts learn valuable skills like measuring, sanding, painting, and problem-solving while working alongside parents and den leaders. The real magic happens when you see your creation zoom down the track on race day!

Building Your Car

Want to build a winning car? There’s both art and science to it! Start by focusing on weight distribution, adding weight toward the rear of the car can give you better speed. Smooth wheels and a polished axle reduce friction and help your car glide faster. Don’t forget aerodynamic! A sleek design cuts through the air more efficiently than a boxy one. But remember, the most important part is having fun and learning along the way.
